Just Me

Just kicking the tires on this blogging thing. Don't really know what I am going to be writing as of yet, but I am sure it will be enlightening to someone hahahaha! I guess I should tell you a little about myself, so you can decide whether or not you want to be bothered to read my ramblings. I have been a high school teacher and coach for the past 25 years. I am married, and my wife and I have 4 children, a son and 3 daughters. My son tried the college thing and it wasn't for him. My oldest daughter is completing her first year of grad school. Next daughter in line just completed her first semester of college and the youngest daughter is halfway through her 8th grade year. As I said earlier I am also a coach, coaching, at different and sometimes the same time football, baseball, and basketball. For almost half of my teaching career I have also been an athletic director. Needless to say, I have seen many things both good and bad and often times humorous.

Teaching for 25 years at the secondary level, I have seen many changes to education and the way in which we as teachers are supposed to teach our students. Some good and some not so good! Bottom line as a teacher you do everything in your power to reach every student you come into contact with.

Every student does not learn the same way! Find each students strength and try to use it to help them be as successful as they can possibly be! As educators, we have to get it through or sometimes very thick heads, that all of our students are not going to go to college! A college education is NOT what defines a person as successful. I have had many, many students, over my 25 years of teaching that have not gone on to college, and yes even dropped out of school that are very happy and productive people.

So, I guess to sum up this first post of mine, I will try to try to relate some of my experiences and impart what little wisdom I have gained from my time as an educator. I will also give my opinions whether they be good, bad, or indifferent.
